SUMMARY:The Gathering at Sycamore Shoals
DESCRIPTION:The Gathering at Sycamore Shoals celebrates the 242nd Anniversary of the Overmountain Men mustering for their march across the mountains to meet and defeat the large Tory army led by Maj. Patrick Ferguson at the Battle of Kings Mountain.  The celebration takes place at the Sycamore Shoals State Park in Elizabethton\, TN on Saturday\, Sept. 10\, 2022\, at 10am. \nThis is a National SAR Color Guard Event with wreath presentations and musket volleys. \nOn Friday\, we plan a four Patriot Grave Marking in downtown Greeneville\, TN at the Old Harmony Cemetery. There is also a Real Daughter to be honored by the DAR buried here. \nWe have made arrangements with the historic General Morgan Inn in downtown Greeneville for a block of rooms at a discounted rate. The Grave Marking is only two blocks from the hotel. \nThe Grave marking will be on Friday morning at 10am. \nThe rest of the day\, you will be free to tour the Andrew Johnson Homestead and Tailor Shop; the historic \nDickson-Williams Mansion; the historic DAR house\, home of Johnson’s great grand-daughter; the City Garage Car Museum; and the Greene County Museum. All these are within a two block walk of the hotel\, plus beautiful downtown Greeneville offers quaint shops and restaurants. \n  \nFriday evening\, we plan to have a two-meat buffet dinner in the beautiful Convention Center Dining Room of the Gen. Morgan Inn. Reservations are required. We will have a special guest speaker and plenty of opportunities to meet and greet. \n  \nThe Commemoration will be on Saturday\, September 9\, 2022 at the Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park
