Volunteer Signup Information
The Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution is pleased to host the 132nd National Society SAR Congress in Savannah, Georgia In July 2022.
Numerous volunteers will be needed to handle all the various jobs that go along with hosting a National Society Sons of the American Revolution Congress.
As a volunteer you will receive an official Volunteer Shirt and be invited a Volunteer reception in Savannah on Saturday, July 9, 2022. You are also able to attend meetings as a non-voting compatriot. Please take advantage of having a National Society SAR Congress in Georgia in 2022.
Volunteers are being asked to utilize an electronic signup system. The system we are using is Signup Genius and the specify link for the 132nd National Congress in Savannah is as follows:

You might have already indicated a willingness to serve as a volunteer (Day Captains, Bus Captains, Credentials, Registration etc.) but we request that you use the link and enter your signup information in the electronic signup to select a specific shift or shifts.
To get shirt sizes, we need made the Shirt Size question a mandatory response. Please enter your shirt size for each slot you sign up for but unfortunately you will only receive ONE shirt for the size indicated.
If you have problems with the electronic system, please do not hesitate to reach out and we can enter the information into the system for you.

The initial descriptions for the various volunteer opportunities follow on the next page. As with any event these duties will change over time and even could change on the day you sign up.
Please be flexible.
If you need to change a sign up for any reason just log back in the system with the link provided you should see your name with three icons below it. The pencil icon allows you to edit information, the two arrows allow you to swap with another person and the x icon allows you to delete that signup and then you can create a new signup.
Lobby Host Table
Sits a table in the Hotel Lobby to welcome people, directs them to specific rooms or areas of the hotel where events are going on, answer basic questions. Generally, a greeter.
Day Captain
Day Captains are the first line of defense when an issue arises. They work directly with the Congress Chairs to make sure the state’s commitments to any event are taken care of. They coordinate and assist with events, as necessary. They are responsible for ensuring that the day runs smoothly with the events scheduled. Day Captains make sure other volunteers have what they need. If something cannot be resolved, then they communicate to higher-ups.
Registration
Verifies compatriot and spouse/guest against paid registration list provided by the National Society. Once verified each registrant is to receive their registration packet(s), Congress bag type to match registration, and any other material the Congress Committee has established. Help individuals with registration issues as needed.
Credentials
Verifies compatriot against state society delegate list and officer list provided by the National Society. Once verified that compatriot is to receive their credential packet.
Help compatriots with credential issues as needed.
Bus Captain
Bus Captains make sure there are coolers, ice, and drinks for tours. They are responsible for everyone on the bus and make sure everyone gets back on the bus after the tour or event. Bus Captains convey the event, tour and/or meal information to bus riders and help with any emergencies that arise from the time their bus leaves until the time it returns.
Tour – assist in loading and unloading buses at the hotel and at applicable various stops on the tour. Making sure the proper number are on the bus. Following directions of tour coordinator. Making sure water is available. Tour on Sunday may have a boxed lunch and the loading and disposal will need to be coordinated. Assisting in loading and unloading for the return trip. Scripts will be provided to assist in informing passengers of what they need to know about the tour.
Memorial Service – assist in loading and unloading buses at hotel and then at the church. Making sure the proper number are on the bus. The Ladies Tea is normally after the memorial Service and assistance will be needed for the transportation of the Ladies back to the hotel. Making sure water is available on the buses.
Ladies Luncheon – assist in loading and unloading buses at hotel and then at the location of the Ladies Luncheon. Making sure the proper number are on the bus. Staying to the end of the luncheon for the same procedure for the return trip. Making sure water is available on the buses.
